Tristan Hughes

Tristan is a largely self-taught, play-by-ear, electroacoustic desktop composer. He is an accomplished DJ and guitarist. In fact, Tristan was the first student to complete the turntablism program at the University of Guelph. Tristan is a regular on campus, from showcasing his technical DJing and crowd-reading skills at major campus-wide events, to performing regularly at the central campus coffee house, The Bullring. Tristan is a master of digital music techniques, making him a versatile and creative producer. He has helped many young artists improve their tracks through his engineering, coaching, and ear for identifying just what makes a tune addictive. It is perhaps Tristan’s own music projects that really bring his talent to the fore. He writes, plays, and produces original music across a wide range of genres. More recently, Tristan has introduced his own vocals into his music as can be heard in his electronic track, “DRIVE,” and punk-rock single, “Oh Baby!” He is also a member of Guelph-based band, Alex and the Bandshaws, where he contributed his talents as a producer, mixing engineer, and performer on their latest alternative-synth-rock release, “Carolina.”

Born and raised in the heart of downtown Toronto, Tristan seized every opportunity to take in live talent, attending concerts by The Weeknd, RÜFÜS DU SOL, Drake, Michel Legrand, Robert Plant, Muse, Kings of Leon, Adele, Elton John, China Crisis, and Johnny Clegg. Over the years, he developed a passion for house music, inspired by touring DJs like Martin Garrix and Avicii. He also came to love rap music after being introduced to the genre by his peers.

Tristan is adamant his music should feel grandiose, “like a gladiator walking into the Colosseum arena.” His music will make you feel alive. His soon-to-be-released house-music project, “EUPHORIA,” encapsulates the feeling you usually only experience at a live show: an overwhelming adrenaline rush mixed with the visceral tremor of bass through your chest. It is addictive, pulsating, and unstoppable. Live performances of the song have been met with rave reviews, leaving the crowd craving “EUPHORIA’s” euphoric atmosphere once more.
